Re-recorded track + Reverbnation

Hey all,

I’ve uploaded a new recording of ‘Never Let Me Down’ which I recorded a couple of days ago. Those of you who have heard it before will notice the addition of an acoustic guitar part, played by Sean Grant (lead guitarist of Terrapin Trainstation, and also writes some incredible acoustic solo stuff which you can find on his own Myspace!)

So, kind of leading onto the next point - You can find said recording on my myspace (www.myspace.com/kevcooke) and on Reverbnation (www.reverbnation.com/kevcooke), where I want to be getting some more hits, plays, and hope some of you will sign up, become fans, join the street team… pretty please, with a cherry on top?

Last night, we played an acoustic set at The Dolphin in Bletchley, which we recorded to use as b-sides for our various singles to come, so perhaps you’ll hear one or two of those songs if you buy our single that comes out on the 27th April! The launch gig is at The Pitz (woughton centre) in Milton Keynes, with The Shapes, and the New Cassettes as supports. It’s going to be a crazy crazy night and shall be the first opportunity for anyone to get their paws on the single, ‘Tell Me Why’.

Last night, I also heard some of the initial mixes for the album, and oh my, the guys at Liquid Studio are busting their back sides making it sounds preeeetty special… ;) My favourite so far is ‘Can’t Go Back’, one of our older tracks but the ending is just so huge, and epic!

Terrapin Trainstation album launch

Before Christmas we were signed to an independent label, TMD Records, and since the new year we’ve been working hard on our first official release. It’s nearly ready… Recording is all finished, mixing in progress, mastering and artwork to be done. There’s going to be eleven tracks, some that a lot of you won’t have heard before unless you’ve seen us very recently :)

The album will be launched at The Pitz (Woughton Centre), in Milton Keynes on Sunday 27th April. The Shapes, and the New Cassettes have been confirmed as the support acts.

The Warwick.de Forum is almost certainly the most friendly and most informative I’ve ever been to. There’s no stiff competition between members, no boasting about skills/equipment, just high spirits and the common interest of bass playing and music.

Whether you own a Warwick bass or not [ though you should...! ;) ], if you admire them or just want to talk music… there’s going to be something to keep you interested, so come sign up!

Gigs this week…

Tomorrow night, Tuesday 1st April, I will be playing a solo set at Stantonbury Theatre (Milton Keynes). If by any chance any of you reading would like to show up, I suggest you make an appearance about 7:30pm to get a seat.

It’s a nice little theatre actually. I’ve played there once or twice before, but never as a solo bass act. Big stage for one tiny person, but should be quite comfortable in terms of stage monitoring and being able to hear myself. Niiiice.

Friday 4th April, I’ll be playing at the British Legion in Newport Pagnell, also in Milton Keynes. I know that this one for sure is free entry, and shall be open for all you peoples at 7:30pm. Friendly pub, and the locals do love their live music.

Sunday 6th April, is a Terrapin Trainstation gig at Club Life, (Sheep Street, Wellingborough). Doors open at 8 o’clock, and there’ll be two other bands and a DJ.

Gig review from March 16th Solo Bass Night

Attempt number infinity at trying to use blogging for a less casual and more useful purpose.

So, now is a good a time as any to link you up the review by Craig Short of MK music e-zine, Ampjam.net.

The gig was at The Dolphin, in Bletchley with myself, Yolanda Charles, and Steve Lawson on the line up. For a solo bass night, the turn out was pretty huge. Steve and Yolanda seemed to enjoy it, as did Lobelia (who took to the stage with Steve to play some tunes. Was a real pleasure to meet her and hear her play again. Be SURE to check out the stuff she does with Steve like ‘Happy live in Nebraska’, it’s one of the most unique and incredible things you’ll ever hear. Message them about the 5 track EP…)

We managed to pull a crowd from afar too… with two people coming from Wales, and two from Bristol, I’d say we did quite well!

Everyone looks forwarding to doing it again some time, so, watch this space for a future date!  :)
